Award-winning Hummelo Betony brings a vigorous burst of spiky violet blooms to your late spring garden while providing a strong mounding groundcover during the rest of the growing season. Masses of two-lipped flowers cluster on the top of strong stems and are a favorite for pollinators in a sunny garden. Deer resistant. (Stachys monieri Hummelo)

A hardy perennial for a pollinator garden

"I wasn't overly familiar with this plant when I got it, but thought I would give it a try. I have had it a couple of years, and this is the first year that it has really displayed its magnificence. It took a while for it to grow, but now that it has, it is a beautiful addition, and the pollinators love it. The best part about this plant is the fact that it is very sturdy. We've had a number of rain storms come through here recently, and it hasn't affected the growth of the plant, or its blooms. Definitely glad I took a chance on it."

Looking forward to seeing the growth.

"Plants are small at this time but have put on new growth. Surviving our drought with watering for sure."

Stunning

"I ordered three of these plants a couple of years ago and last year (we moved a year after, so I think it got shocked from the move) it bloomed so beautifully. We had over 100 bees - not being dramatic either. One of THE best plants, I've ordered for my leafcutter bees! You will not be disappointed!"

So far so good

"Not familiar with this plant. They were inexpensive and very small. Placed on hillside bed that gets 4 or 5 hours of sun."

BUY THIS PLANT!

"Last year. . . not so much, but this year WOW!! Three beautiful and healthy plants emerged from the ground this spring! The pollinators have just loved this plant this year and I have too. Just beautiful!"

Hummelo Betony

"Plants arrived nice and healthy but petty small-which is fine as long as they are healthy. This is my first time growing Betony and I have found that it is very slow growing. Mine have not bloomed yet but they have grown quite a bit. I will be excited to see their blooms next year!"

Stachys monieri 'Hummelo' is a fabulous plant

"The name "Hummelo' is from Piet Oudolf's personal garden. He developed and named this cultivar. Master plantsman Roy Diblik introduced this plant to my garden (zone 5a in WI) and it's a great performer. It stays a manageable size, does not scatter seed, and does not require pruning or other care to stay looking good. Looks great planted with Amsonia "Blue Ice", large blue or purple alliums and underplanted with mid sized spring bulbs. Add white coneflowers for summer color! I'm going to push the boundaries and try it in my new zone 9 garden."
