White Trillium opens exquisite white blooms up to 4 inches across in mid-spring. Flowers fade to a pretty pale pink. This woodland wildflower requires patience but is well worth the wait. Seeds produced by the plants and underground roots and will spread slowly into drifts of trillium that look like a white blanket covering the ground. (Trillium grandiflorum)

Bad luck

"These were not in the best shape after shipping (which if I remember correctly, was also delayed by a few days). Planted anyway and hoped for the best. Unfortunately only 1 of the 6 bare roots planted sprouted. Actually, what I thought was one root did put out two sets of leaves (see image), so maybe there was an extra small bare root included! But as you can see from the image, it is not the right species of trillium!!! There are a number of trillium species that have molted leaves, but Trillium grandiflorum is not one of them. :( Now wondering if I was sent the wrong species, and that's why most of them failed??"

probably not

"I bought a large bag of these in bulk and sadly only one grew. I'm not sure if the squirrels ate them or what happened. If I buy again, I think I may start them indoors and only transplant them, no matter what the instructions say."

5 out of 6 came up

"Last spring, my trillium grandiflora order arrived in a flimsy plastic bag. The mailman rubberbanded the package with other mail. The roots were all broken. I called American Meadows and customer service said go ahead and plant them, they should be ok. I was skeptical, but planted them. This spring, 5 out of 6 are coming up!"

Bought six,and all are doing great!

"I plant these in our woods to compliment native plants. Planting them in the right location, protecting them from deer, and realizing they will probably be smallish and bloomless the first spring, are important."

Perfect for my full shade garden

"Received 3 white trillium and was a little nervous due to other comments but the 3 seem to be thriving. I have a small 'woodland' type garden by my front porch In full shade (fern, Hosta, Astilbe, Lenten rose & Sweet Woodruff). These trillium fit in perfectly. One has a bloom. Also ordered Virginia Blue Bells, a peony and a Bee Balm. Everything looks good but the Blue Bells. Looks like only 1 of the 3 might make it."

PATIENCE !!!

"Bought 9 of these 3 years ago from another vendor. I've been trying to replicate my favorites from the woods in my childhood in Massachusetts, even though I'm in Iowa. They arrived as small dried up looking rhizomes/corms in a plastic baggie. I thought They were dead. They were firm, though. I planted them anyway, as directed, in three different locations, so I could see under which conditions they would grow best; all three areas were good for me. I put three under an azalea, three w/i 6 feet of a large oak tree, and three in a protected area near some bleeding heart where I've been able to grow some models. All have dappled or part-time sun; otherwise full shade. Nothing the first year. Leaves in two places the second year; one small flower. I had almost given up. Only the third area had leaves last year, three plants, along with large very striking flowers that lasted for weeks and did shade to a light pink toward the end. They were SPECTACULAR! What a surprise, as I thought they hadn't made it. Waiting to see if they have multiplied this year, or if wildlife helped plant them elsewhere in my shady yard. I hope so."

Breakfast for the javelina

"Bulbs arrived in good condition. Plants never came up. My best guess is that the javelina dug them up. Not a fault of the bulb but possibly good to know for those that have them."
