How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Vinca minor or Periwinkle is a favorite flowering groundcover, even in the coldest zones. It loves shade, so its perfect for ringing trees, making mowing easier. Short plants with small, glossy green leaves put on little flowers in periwinkle blue. Its lovely.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"Vinca is a beautiful ground cover that always gets compliments. The deer will eat it down to the ground during the winter in Southeastern Pennsylvania. If you plant vinca in the eating path of deer, you will be very disappointed in spring when you see the plants begin again - green with periwinkle flowers - knowing you will never achieve the lush ground cover you wanted. Vinca is easy to trim back if it grows too forward of sidewalks, lawns, etc. Vinca is invasive and can hold litter from trees, so maintenance is required. Vinca enjoys routine feedings and will flower all season."
"I have a front yard that's mostly shaded because of the neighbor's tall trees. After several sod replacements, I removed the grass and planted vinca (major) where the lawn used to be. It took a couple of years but now, instead of grass, I have a vinca front yard that's beautiful, maintenance free and doesn't die in the shade."
"Vinca fills in like a blanket around my trees. They are attractive and I no longer need to weed around my trees."
"Vinca is great where it can be controlled by an edge. I use it, bordered by bricks, with my clematis. It covers the clematis roots and keeps them cool which they like. This spot is in full sun, which I know is not the recommended use, but it's gorgeous and really does its clematis job. Once a year I clean up any vinca that try to go beyond the edge."
