Some gardeners have a strong love-hate relationship with violets, due to their tendency to spread and naturalize, but it all depends on where they are planted! Of course, everybody loves the flowers. Use them anywhere that you want a drift of blooms, expanding year after year, to delight and surprise you! We particularly love them along a woodland edge, or tucked throughout our shadier areas of lawn.

Pretty, long bloom flowers
"I'm new at gardening and live is zone 6a. After planting them, they continued to bloom all season. They're pretty and a little smaller than the size of a half dollar coin. They didn't spread very far (less than a foot for all the "shoots"). This past winter (2014-2015) was horribly cold and harsh. They didn't come back, which made me sad. I liked seeing them rebloom until it got cold in the fall."
