How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
With shiny green stems and ball-shaped brown buds, these airy plants are one of the major colormakers in any meadow in any region. The clusters of bi-colored golden flowers with mahogany centers literally “light up” a meadow, and have a long blooming season. They’re also great for cutting. This is a plains species, but is very widespread. It is called “calliopsis” in the South, where it is enjoyed right down into Florida. In fact, the coreopsis was recently designated as the official State Wildflower of Florida.

"Loved this! We have the absolute worst clay soil and so many things fail. These flourished! I will definitely be buying them again."
"I sewed the coreopsis in a Ricky, sandy area of my backyard that was ugly and hard to deal with. They germinated and grew quickly. The whole area was ablaze in gold flowers."
"This is a reliable showy plant. I have grown these for several decades. I never grow tired of them."
"prepped the soil easily and laid seed. BOOM."
"It's a great accent for my garden, and I've seen bees on the flowers."
"I loved these flowers. I planted the front edge of two beds with them in early May. They were covered in non-stop blooms from June through September. They took full sun without wilting and I didn't water them very frequently once they started blooming. They are highly visible from a distance. I will plant these every year. I planted a smaller area of them later in the summer in partial shade. I didn't get nearly as many blooms there. I think these thrive with sun."
"I only ended up with 1 plant this year. I never have great luck with the plains coreopsis, but I keep trying because I love the look of it! I think it just has difficulty competing with the other species I plant. What I did have bloomed profusely nearly all season. It currently still has blooms even after a light frost."
"I tried these in a wildflower garden. They need a lot of sun. Grew well in wall planter. Plan to get more next year. American Meadows has the best seeds !"
"These thrive anywhere but especially waste places. toss a pinch out the window and watch them take bloom on the side of the road. a must for the summer cutting garden."
"I was hoping to have this blooming all over a wild slope, however we had a really cold wet Spring and nothing came up like it would have in my dirt in Milwaukee. Most of our yard here is rocky with a little soil. I should have planted them in the fall but we got 10 inches of snow the last day of Oct and I didn't get them in. I will keep trying!!! They came up along our gravel drive way and other tough places as well as some nicer places which tell me they are versatile. Am letting them go to seed this year as I am with all my flowers that didn't do well."
