How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"I did plant these rather late for our zone 4 area but they are adding a great pop of color this September!"
"This is an easy-to-grow dahlia, providing big blooms, perfect for bouquets or to grow in a garden setting. I didn't water them once during the growing season (we had a lot of rain here in the Northeast) and the only care I gave them was to string them up (they can get top-heavy with the large size of the flowers)!"
"Kelvin Floodlight was the highlight of my first dahlia season. It was the first dinnerplate dahlia to bloom and gigantic - seriously as big as my head. The color was such a bright yellow and I had a lot of blooms despite starting in June and being in zone 4. With it being a dinnerplate I strongly suggest staking. Highly reccomend."
"I've grown Dahlias for years and always tend to go for the purples and bi-colors. I planted the Kelvin Floodlight on a whim this year, and now I totally get the hype. This is a showstopper! The blooms are gigantic, and hold up for a long time in the garden or as a cut flower. Never thought I'd be so in love with a simple yellow dinner plate dahlia, but I've been completely won over and am thankful I finally gave this. These produced soooo many blooms, my only regret is not covering them when we had an early hard frost in my zone 4 yard. There were still a ton of buds on the plant that didn't get to develop when they were zapped by frost. I didn't stake these, but they would have benefited from it. I plant mine in a raised bed and cram in more than recommended, so they kind of hold each other up for the most part. Stunning blooms for months, really impressed with this one, I see why it's been a fan favorite, it's one of mine now too. Highly recommend!"
"Easy to plant. Easy to maintain. The hardest part was waiting for blooms! But once they started I was astonished at how big the plants grew. No problems with pests (bugs) even though they were next to sunflowers and pumpkins that we battling Squash Vine Borers. Advice: DEFINITELY ADD STAKES while planting - with these big flowers you will need them."
"Wow wow wow. These things are insane! I made every mistake possible. Overwatered, forgot to stake, and didn't treat with any pest control at all. So of course they flopped over and got completely infested with thrips BUT despite my total negligence they bloomed nonstop from July well into October and the blooms were HUGE. 8-12 inch on average."
"These flowers are big, beautiful and a great bright yellow color. The blooms are so big that I like to use just one or two in a vase with some smaller "fillers". I have one planted in a smaller pot, one in the ground and one in a very large pot. The smaller pot looks like the blooms will be a little smaller by looking at the size of the buds. The cons are it is very tall and heavy and will need strong stakes to hold it up. I would recommend this dahlia to anyone."
"This dahlia lived up to its name, dinner plate! The blooms were long stemmed, large and beautiful! The blooms came in clusters that beautified the space in which they grew, and attracted many admirers who complemented their sizes and brilliant yellow color! I reluctantly cut a few blooms to beautify my dining room, and they perfectly graced the space in which they were placed! I am thrilled that I bought them for my garden!"
"It's been so hot in Mn all summer and most dahlias refused to bloom and grow, but Kelvin Floodlight was one of the first dahliaa to bloom in spite of the extreme heat, day and night."
"First to blossom. largest of the bunch, but few blossoms. Still a great addition to my garden."
