How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"This year I planted a rainbow of dahlias which included adding some new varieties I'd previously overlooked. I normally go for the purple hues and bi-colors, but wanted to give some others a try this year. Sure glad I did. The Sylvia Ball Dahlia was a pleasant surprise. Beautiful ball form in a cheerful orange color. Loved having this one in my cutting beds this year and would definitely grow it again. Lasts a long time in the garden or as a cut flower. A new favorite of mine. I'll be growing a rainbow of dahlias every year now, such a treat to see all the different forms and colors."
"These last very well as a cut flower, and they are beautiful! Consistent size, shape, and appear as photographed. Unfortunately, however, only one of three tubers succeeded. Our soil here (Eastern Kansas) is not amazing (clay heavy) and we're working on doctoring it, so that could certainly be the issue, but I'm not sure."
"Only one out of the three tubers has bloomed and it is a pretty flower but definitely not as full as the photos/description says. The center pops really early with all that have bloomed so far. And again, it's still pretty, but just not as full as it was described."
"It's a flat ball, nice size and beautiful. This is the first time I have grown dahlia ball, and Sylvia is really a good choice. Want to grow more next year. Thanks so much for the good bulbs!"
"The perfectly shape bloom is consistent, and the color is wonderful for fall bouquets."
