How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Thomas Edison boasts large, deep purple blooms and creates a gorgeous statement in the summer garden.
Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"I plant these for cut flowers, and just to look at. They are hardy flowers that come up regularly. They are so beautiful."
"This easy-to-grow dinner plate dahlia didn't disappoint! Big blooms and the deep purple were a nice addition to the color pallet that I grew this year."
"We've had no success with any of the American Meadows purchases that are root plantings. I think it's our failure more than what you provide. These did not grow for us."
"I have grown these at least three if not the past four years. This is the first year they are fairly small, barely 5" blooms. Not quite worth the "dinner plate" rating."
"These flowers are stunning! I grew in containers in pa. One of my plants ended up being 8 feet tall which did require staking I didn't mind that at all. It is oct 20 and I just picked my last three flowers to put in a vase. These have bloomed many since July. I have cut several for myself and to give to friends. Everyone loves them! The flower is large and beautiful! Has brought a lot of hummingbirds and butterflies into my garden which has brought me great joy! Love these!"
"This dahlia had a beautiful, vibrant, and rich color! The blooms were healthy, long lasting, and they blended well with other flowers in my garden."
"Beautiful. love the color"
"Love the deep purple color!"
"This is everybody's favorite flower in the garden this year. It is huge and lush and prolific. I plan to order more and put them in the front yard for next year. I am in zone 7b so I am hoping that with proper winterization I will have it next year too. Absolutely stunning."
"All of my Thomas Edisons came up strong and had lots of big purple flowers. So pretty. One of my all time favorites!"
