This favorite flower is famous for its quick blooms and sweet fragrance. The brilliant pink flowers are a delight both in the garden and brought inside for fabulously-fragrant bouquets. (Lathyrus odoratus)

I bought the royal sweet pea red

"I planted 1/4 pound of these seeds. I tried to started 400 of them in small peat pots with miracle grow potting soil, after soaking the seeds for 48 hours in non-chlorinated water. The rest I dropped into 1 inch deep holes 6 inches apart after soaking, around the outside of tall bamboo stand. However it has now been 21 days since planting and I have 4 sprouts in the peat pots and 3 from the ones planted into dirt. Sweet peas grow well in my garden from self reseeding of pinks and purples I grew from a simple packet years ago. Not sure what I did wrong , or if this color just does not like to grow. I though maybe something is eating them like a slug, so I went and check them at night. Nope. Either they have a much longer germination time than they stated, or they are a bust."

Great subject to specialise in for shows

"These seeds, need to be at least soaked for 48 hrs, or lightly chipped to aid germination. They do best in a soil that has been double dug [2spits deep] and a lot of paper, rags, sawdust etc added to bottom spit and then covered. Manure is then added and finally cvovered with top soil. I remember my dad even cutting up an old bicycle frame, burying it and then throwing tin cans down there as well. They do best trained up strings or poles. High labour time tying up daily, keeping watered, pinching out and daily harvesting, produces award winning blooms, which smell magnificent. Cut blooms daily for best results. Do these tips and your rewards will be extremely satisfactory."
