"Healthy bulbs all coming up with no issues."
"This is the most beautiful lily in my opinion. It's like a work of art and smells great."
"Despite being a foundation species for modern Oriental lily hybrids, Lilium auratum is difficult to find in commerce. Often, offerings turn out to be mislabeled. This is the genuine item. All three bulbs ordered were vigorous and have performed well."
"It started blooming beautiful!! Reminds me of my childhood in Japan. Thank you for the great product"
"Planted 3. 2 grew to nice plants this summer. Hopefully they will flower next year."
"none"
"Enormous flowers were replicas of the product photo. White outer petal, yellow inner streak with dark brown freckles. Somewhat downward facing flower, but plant height helps. About 3-4 flowers per plant. I planted these bulbs in my 2nd year of gardening and placed them in multiple places around the yard: 1) a large planter sitting on top of soil in full sun, 2) in-ground on the North side of my house in somewhat dense soil, 3) in-ground on the East side of my house in dense soil and half sun, and 4) in a very small nursery pot. One bulb on the North side of my house did not grow, but the other planted 6-inches away bloom profusely. The other 4 bulbs did well, even the one in a small nursery pot on my West-facing deck (see pic). Bought 6 bulbs and 5 came up - one was a dud. I planted the bulbs in the spring and the flowers bloomed in late July. Plants were short overall (maybe 24 inches), but the flowers were still very large and I expect them to be taller this year since the bulbs will be better established. Sturdy stems did not require any supports. Moved some of the bulbs in Fall '22 and found several bulb offshoots on each bulb. Replanted those offshoots and hoping to see if those flower this year, too."
"I ordered six bags, so 18 bulbs for my front yard in sunny California. One bag was totally empty, called company got another bag several weeks later. Half of the lilies came up but are less than a foot tall, a couple of those just straight up died, only one has bloomed by July 30th and it is a regular sized bloom, not the plate sized bloom promised on a 3-5 foot plant. I water of course, being California with no rain, and use a water meter. I also talked to someone at America Meadows to make sure these would be happy where I live before I purchased them. These are garbage."
"Assuming next season the added height will counter the negative of the downward facing aspect when added to arrangements"
"Did not come up. Followed instructions. Could be the weather. This is the only order that has failed me over the many years that I have purchased from them."
If a beauty contest were held for lilies--species, hybrids, all of them--this is surely the lily that would win. If you know the Casa Blanca lily, the big scented white florist favorite, or Stargazer, the No. 1 red, you may see some of their beauty in this one, since it is a wild parent of both. But in this case, the parent is far more spectacular than the offspring.
As lily expert Michael Jefferson-Brown says, 'In a genus where splendour is commonplace, this one stands out as magnificent.' But even his comment is an understatement.
Enormous flowers between 10 and 12 inches across have elegantly curled tips at the end of the tepals (petals.) It has a heavenly scent. Blooms are pure white with gold stripes down the middle of each tepal, and then further highlights of bright crimson spots. Lilium speciosum var rubrum is truly a masterpiece of the flower kingdom, and probably one of the most spectacular wildflowers in the world.
This incredible species, along with Lilium speciosum, the Rose Red Lily of Japan, has been the source of almost all our Oriental Hybrids. But what do you think? Most people think none of the descendants comes close to this parent for sheer beauty.
The bulbs are quite rare, and necessarily expensive. But they are hardy and grow well in most all of North America. Ours were cultivated in Holland, not gathered from the wild. Detailed planting instructions are included. Nothing could be more magnificent as a specimen in your wild garden.
