Description

Why everybody loves Zinnias: Probably no plant can give you more color for less work. It's because the zinnia is one of the easiest plants to grow from seed (any child can do it, and many do!), they'll give you every color but blue, and they bloom all season up until frost. Can you think of another flower that does all that?

How to grow them: Good full sun is really all that's required, although some of the newer hybrids will even bloom in partial shade. As for water, they don't need much, since they're from hot desert-like habitats. Soil? Almost any soil will do, but they prefer fast-draining gritty soil, if you have that available.

Zinnia seeds are perfect for starting indoors to have bloom early. But be sure you wait until every frost is gone, and the soil has warmed up a bit before setting them out. They're super-sensitive to frost--after all, these plants are from frost-free regions, and don't like cold soil. If you'd rather, you can just wait until spring arrives, and sow them outside. They're very undemanding.

"Disappointed in these small zinnias. I typically plant the cut and come again zinnia which is a gorgeous tall plant with decent sized flowers that bloom all summer long. This year I thought I would mix in a row of the Candyland zinnia for variety, the striped coloring looked like a fun addition to my flower bed. I'm glad I planted them in the front row because they are significantly smaller than the cut-and-come-again variety. They are a more delicate plant, smaller in size and with very small blooms. Also, none of them have the "candy" striping that is advertised in the description and photos. Next year I will stick with my favorites and forego this variety."

not like the other zinnias i have had in the past

"at the time of ordering these, the ones that i normally get ( cut and come again ) were not in stock, so i took a chance and got these. i worked the soil just like i have done with all my other zinnia seeds in the past, i have watered and they have sprouted, but they are very, very, very slow to grow. cut and come again seeds from last year have come up from last year and they are already blooming, where these are only a few inches high and i will be lucky if i see any blooms anytime soon. i bought these and 2 other different zinnia seeds just to try something different this year and all of them are doing the same thing. maybe other people have had good luck with these in the past, but i havent this year ."
