This deer-resistant variety adds rich, gorgeous color to the summer and fall garden. A perennial form of the native Black-Eyed Susan, the giant, bi-color double flowers ignite the garden year after year and are extremely easy to grow. Native Gloriosa Daisies grow to be 12-36” tall and tolerate partial shade. The unique blooms make for gorgeous summer bouquets. Plant Information

Wildflower native purists may not want this “man-made” wildflower in their meadows, but most people do. Basic color and sandpapery leaves are identical to its parent, the black-eyed susan, but flowers are much larger, varied in form, and most important, this species is perennial, while black-eyed susan (R. hirta) is biennial, making its yearly bloom less dependable. A truly fabulous plant for meadow color. Also great for cutting.

This is the only flower I could not get to grow. Everything else in my order # 1098385 came up wonderful but my Daisy's were a no show. Should I try again or are they a moody product?

Comments about American Meadows Gloriosa Daisy Seeds:

If you can wait a season, this sweetheart will surprise you with a spectacular show in the mid to late summer.

I planted a Southeast mix, and there was a plant that had soft fuzzy leaves but never a bloom. I kept it around for its leaves and moved on; the following summer, a mystery flower popped up and dazzles me every time I come into my driveway. I have a corner lot and a focal garden full of zinnias (because they're easy) and this one outshines ALL the zinnias.

If you can be patient and allow this gorgeous lady time to set herself up, you will not be disappointed. Absolutely stunning, and the perfect shades of warmth for the late summer garden.

Comments about American Meadows Gloriosa Daisy Seeds:

I throw the seeds out in fall or early spring. They seem to germinate at a high rate and once they start blooming they do it all the way to first frost. They reseed very easily and spread fast so it is easy to establish borders in one or two seasons. They definitely add bright colors to the garden and don't need to much water to stay health.

Comments about American Meadows Gloriosa Daisy Seeds:

I have been experimenting with different flower species on a 3 acre field which starts about 250 feet behind my house. The black-eyed susan's have spread well along with the Echinacea purpurea. But, it is the gloriosa daisy's that show the large splash of color from far away. My seeding technique is crude. I throw down pounds of seed and something sticks. Second year after germinating the flowers really take off.

Comments about American Meadows Gloriosa Daisy Seeds:

When we finished building our home in NC, 6 years ago, we had several acres of raw dirt what had been a meadow. I wanted to restore the area so I planted a misture of wildflowers and native grass seed. Every year we add several pounds of perinials. We find that some do well and others don't in our red clay, full sunlight, low rain area. The one that prosper are Blanket flowers, Daisy of all kind, Yarrow, Dianthus, Dames Rocket, baby's breath and black-eyes susan. so we keep adding to the known and experimenting with a new one like California poppys. Our meadow is now a wonderful mixture of flowers and grasses.

After buying a home on 4 acres of clay and struggling to get my favorites to grow; I bought some Black-eyed Susan seeds and the results were impressive. They added such wonderful color to the landscapes and were even kind enough to come back! I will continue to plant the rest of the property in these lovely Susans!

                                    Q & A

                                    Plant With These:

                                    USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                    • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                    • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
