'Ice Ballet' Swamp Milkweed is a staple of the butterfly garden, providing essential food, nectar and shelter to Monarchs at every life stage. Clouds of fragrant, bright-white blooms also attract and support a crowd of other pollinators. While many Swamp Milkweeds make their homes in wetlands, 'Ice Ballet' thrives in drier soils. Pollinators Love It

"I received the plants last Fall and planted them. Unfortunately my yard floods (12 inches under water), so by January all the milkweed plants were completely out of the soil. I did my best to replant them, mounded topsoil around the roots and hoped for the best. Amazingly they survived! Even though the ground was still frozen in March I added 8 more inches of topsoil and some mulch. They are now 3 ft. tall and blooming beautifully."

Really hardy

"I planted 3 of these in a garden a few years ago. I now have over 150. and just let them spread and crowd out some smaller flowers and plants since the bees, wasps, and hornets go nuts for these. Not sure why I don't ever see monarchs on them like I do on my sedum, which I planted in another area."

Satisfactory

"I used this item to fill in a spot where a tree was removed. After you replaced 2 of the plants that died the new ones seem to be growing and doing well. I need to find out how to care for them. They seem to bend way over in the wind, I don't know if at the end of the growing season they need to be cut back but about to look up. Would buy this again if I had the space for it!"

I Should have potted these

"I was uncertain about these plants when they arrived - the roots looked dried and stalk thoroughly dead. I planted two in an appropriate location and a 3rd in a pot - this was after our last frost. The only one that made it was the one I potted. I should have complained and gotten a refund but from now on I will just pot anything I get to be sure it is strong before putting it in the ground"

Not much luck

"Only two of the 18 we bought have survived, they're growing but obviously struggling. It's possible we bought the wrong kind of Milkweed however, according to the catalog, they should grow in North Texas."

Will not buy from American Meadows

"Arrived bare root, without any sign of growth,. I have purchased many bare root plant and rhizomes from other online nurseries, but none of my ice ballet are growing."

Milkweed for Monarchs

"I plant milkweed, as I am a part of the Monarch restoration community. Your plants arrived in great condition. I unpacked them immediately and began planting them throughout my gardens. My flower beds are full and thriving. The milkweed is planted in between other native perennials and annual flowers to attract Monarch butterflies. My gardens are doing so well this year with plenty of rainfall and are completely full. This enables the butterflies to hide in the plants to keep safe from preditors."

Nice addition

"Great addition to my butterfly garden"

Monarch magnet!

"American Meadows substituted these for another pink milkweed that I ordered in the spring, and I am so glad they did! I have been growing milkweed for years and have never had monarchs before. These lovelies are currently hosting 12 monarch caterpillars across four plants in their first year. We also planted a large bed of zinnias which seems to bring the butterflies for nectar, and then they lay their eggs on the milkweed. We are just delighted with these healthy, hardy plants. Thank you American meadows!"
