Plant Information

18-24” tall x 24-30” wide. The Mediterranean look of ‘Pastor’s Pride’ English lavender belies the remarkable cold hardiness of this excellent woody shrub. This cultivar sports shorter, plumper flowers on stems held close to the foliage. Site in a well-drained, sunny position with plenty of ventilation and you will enjoy a copious display of flowers against resinous grey foliage in late spring. If you cut the display back in mid-summer after flowering, you’ll get a second flush of bloom in early autumn, attracting pollinators but repelling deer! As a compact to mid-height variety, ‘Pastor’s Pride’ is an excellent choice for edging pathways or gracing the front of the flower border, particularly in a gravel garden where its need for good drainage is met. Keep ‘Pastor’s Pride’ well-trimmed after both blooming periods to avoid the woodiness that can create a leggy shrub and you’ll enjoy this fabulous plant for many years to come.

Q & A

Plant With These:

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
