Butterfly Weed is the iconic, bright orange beauty that's a staple in every butterfly garden. This showy native wildflower is easy to grow, cold hardy, and does well in poor, dry soils. Long-lasting clusters of small, flat-topped flowers are crowned with a yellow, sun-kissed "corona" and bloom from June through August. Butterfly Weed is an important nectar source for Monarch butterflies and its leaves provide essential food for developing Monarch caterpillars - but expect to see a variety of pollinators making use of this plant. Please note the Bag of 3 are bareroots. (Asclepias tuberosa)

Reviews

"Plants arrived in great condition and stage of growth, and are still doing great a week later (minus one an animal dug up and ate). I received exactly what I ordered, and I look forward to both my fall and next spring preorders. I am never disappointed with American Meadows plants or the care used in their shipping."

Second times a charm!

"I had one that died off pretty quick and was told by an employee at that place that these are hard to grow. I got one at American meadows and planted it last year and it looked like it died off by late fall. I gave it a chance and it has come back and is growing, albeit slowly."

The plants was very small when they arrived, not doing well

"Plants are very small and not doing very well since I planted them. I will wait a few months and see the results."

Died In Two Days

"My Butterfly Weed arrived in a small pot along with the other 4 plants I ordered. It looked beautiful at first, and I got it in the evening and planted it the next morning, using the same style as I had the other plants. No issues with the planting, except I noticed one of the sprigs was beginning to wilt. I watered it in well, and went on with the day. The next day, completely withered and dead. This is just an FYI statement, I love American Meadows and the other dozen or so plants they've sent me are thriving."

Received 16 orange milkweed Oct 21

"The pots arrived, and nothing to be seen with a sticker saying the "plants are asleep". A very close inspection of one of the 16 pots showed a few tiny roots but no taproot of any kind. Since the place I was going to plant these is more of a natural area, no way would these plants have a chance, so I will keep them in the garage this winter on a shelf by a south facing window and see if a miracle will happen by spring, Then if the miracle happens I will have to grow out in large pots to get them up to size before turning them loose in the wild."

Nothing come up

"I originally ordered 2 bags with 3 roots each. Nothing came up so I contacted AM. They replaced on bag and credited the other because they were out of stock. The new roots I received didn't come up either. I had heard that these were hard to grow. I bought 2 plants from my local nursery and they are doing well. Beautiful plant."

Excited to watch them grow!

"I bought 6 of these bare root plants and planted 3 right away and the other 3 a couple weeks later. They came with instructions. The first 3 have started to sprout up into small bushy plants. Excited to see if they will bring butterflies. The others have not started growing above ground yet but I believe they will soon."
