Description
24-39" tall x 18" wide. Raven Girl Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) shimmers in the late spring garden with broad ruffled petals of purple-black standards with near-black falls. With over 63 years of breeding behind it, Raven Girl has almost unbelievable color but also blooms with 8-12 buds per stem for a long season of bloom. It's a flowering beauty that will become a welcome highlight to the garden. At 24-39" tall, Raven Girl can stand on its own in a grouping or become a dramatic element in a mixed planting. Plant with Oriental Poppies, Peonies, Ornamental Grasses, and always, other Bearded Iris, for a striking and unusual effect. Great as dramatic cut flowers too, the heavy bearing stems will bloom for weeks in a vase. Harvest stems in the morning when the buds have begun to swell. Plant rhizomes (bulbs) in well-drained soil in a location with full sun to part-shade. Keep the top of the rhizome even or just above the soil. Water well, but don't overwater. Bearded Iris don't like wet feet.
