Virginia Bluebell’s gorgeous flowers start out as lovely, pastel pink buds and open up into vivid, true blue blooms. A perfect addition to part and full-shade woodland gardens, plant Virginia Bluebells to see early spring blooms and frequent visits from pollinators. This native plant increases in size each year and will form a beautiful colony over time with almost no care from the gardener. (Mertensia virginica)

All 3 didn’t sprout

"I was excited for these. Planted 3 bare roots last year. None of them have come up."

Lucy (1/5)

exceeded expectations!

"This has been a spectacular success. Planted in partial shade in pretty marginal soil. But each year they come back more robust, and bloom like you wouldn't believe. They're the perfect spring ephemeral."

Wendy (5/5)

Disappointed in A. M,'s bare root woodland plants

"I ordered several Woodland bare roots this year and broke it down to a science when planting to try to get best success and maximal beauty. Not a single one sprouted. They were also TEENY-TINY upon arrival. None of the native woodland wildflowers I have purchased from A. M have done very well. All of the roots just seemed tiny and weak to me. . . I am sad because I was really looking foward to a colorful spring shade garden this spring. Not to mention the amount of $$$ for some of this stuff."

One came up

"It says Virginia Bluebells can be grown in partial shade but I was only able to get 1 to grow & was short lived."

Waiting for those blue flowers!

"The planting arrived well packed and healthy. It's having adjustment issues but alive. I hope it covers what I planned and thrives"

Dee (4/5)

Unfortunately did not grow

"These Flowers looked lovely in the picture. I planted them last fall as directed. Unfortunately they did not come up. I'm in Colorado basically Zone 4 where I live, although when I put my zip code in the "zone Finder" it always says zone 5"

Love my Virginia Bluebells!

"Well established by second year, multiplying. Beautiful."

Alverno (5/5)

Did not last

"When these arrived as bulbs, I planted immediately. They began to lead out… but shortly after stopped and hasn't grown since. A few of the blurbs never emerged."

Amanda (3/5)

I love these spring ephemerals!

"I am using the Virginia Bluebells and other plants to convert my garden from lawn and non-native plants to mostly natives (and very little grass). : )"

I Will Try These Again

"I planted the Virginia bluebells in a shady area. The first shipment of rhizomes did not grow, and when I contacted customer service, a replacement was immediately shipped. The second shipment grew within a few days, and lovely green leaves adorned the space. Then, we had issues with critters digging them up. Next year I may try again and protect them with cages, because who doesn't want Virginia bluebells? The bottom line is that excellent customer service ranks high on my list, and that is what I received."
