Native to the plains and Western U.S., Blanket Flower adds vibrant, bold color to any sunny garden where it will deliver blooms for months. Famous for its cheeful color and extended bloom time, perennial Gaillardia is extremely easy to grow, attractive to pollinators and deer resistant. Growing less than two feet tall, Blanket Flower is great planted in the front of a meadow or wildflower garden. All of the seed we carry at American Meadows is non-GMO, neonicotinoid-free and guaranteed to grow.
Flowers of the perennial version of the gaillardia are a little larger than the annual—often up to 3 or 4 inches across, for a real spectacle of color. Effect is so bright, fine flower snobs in the English garden literature often are “shocked” by the “horrid” clashing colors. Not so in nature—a wildflower meadow takes on all colors and loves them all! Common names range from Blanket Flower to Indian Blanket (usually reserved for the annual version) and Firewheel. Seed is fluffy when gathered. See annual, G. pulchella.

"These plants came in wonderful shape! They were about 3” tall. In planted them in May of 2026. They have flourished and are loaded with blooms and are now (06/08/2026) 12” - 14” tall and the same with. All the neighbors compliment on their beauty."

May Use Again
"I got more of the low leaves than flowers with this one. I may try by adding more flower seeds to it."
— Pamie (4/5)
Love this product!
"We built our new house and seeded the hillside with these…. spectacular!"
— Scout (5/5)
Has poor germination with these.
"Plant blanket flowers every year in pollinator strips on a corn farm. These seeds just seems to be inert this year. Had very poor germination."

Grows well in hot desert areas
"I am always disappointed in reviews because the majority are from areas that get rain (we rarely get rain here in Zone 9). So, in order to help other desert gardeners, I am making it my mission to review every product I order from American Meadows that does well in the low desert (specifically, Zone 9). (See my review of coreopsis/blue flax). That said, the fact a plant grows well here does not mean it won't also grow well elsewhere. Gaillardia is super hardy for hot, dry desert gardens. This year's sowing has survived over 40 days of 110+ degree temperatures and is still producing in late August. I am always seeking out plants that are heat and drought tolerant, low water use, pollinator friendly, and rabbit-proof. Gaillardia fulfills all four criteria. Easy to grow, long-lasting, bright and colorful. I highly recommend gaillardia for desert gardens."

Great flowers
"It was a very hot summer in NE GA. and I had to water them often, however late summer, early fall they began to bloom and they looked great. I will order them again."
— Robert (5/5)
Still blooming strong, mid-November even after an ice storm!
"Impressed. Still blooming strong in my 7b garden, mid-November even after an ice storm!"
— Dee (5/5)
Pretty!
"Love. Only watered until plants were about 3 inches tall, six weeks. Takes a while to germinate."
— A. A. (5/5)
Shucks. Will try again, though.
"Well, I placed this out in a composted and nicely sanded plot. Not sure what happened. I'll try again. The rest of what I ordered last spring did well, though."
— Ally (3/5)
Very pretty
"I purchased poppies and coreopsis as well as these for a special area. These seeds took when the others did not. They are very attractive"
