Live plants were successful, bare roots were not
"It's been about a month since I planted this pre-planned garden. All of the live plants were successful (except for one of the grasses), but the bare roots less so. When I received the bare roots, I stayed out digging until after sunset to make sure they got in the ground within 24 hr to make sure they didn't die. I used compost and fertilizer and kept them watered. When they arrived, the instructions said they would have no growth, but they did have some small growth. The instructions didn't say what to do if there was growth, so I buried them with a small amount of the growth above the soil. While all of the daylilies have survived, none of the red hot pokers or geraniums have. This is disappointing, I was much more excited for those plants over the daylilies. I appreciated the garden plan, but with 5 plants dying, I didn't actually end up saving money by ordering small bare root plants versus buying better established plants at the garden store. I also ordered the small shade pre-planned garden, and in that case 5/6 bare roots lived (one bleeding heart did not). Overall, I am mostly satisfied with the live plants I received, but will not be ordering bare roots again."
