Description

(12-14" tall) 'Purple Prince' Single Early Tulip is easy to grow in beds and containers. Sword-like foliage adds texture and structure to the garden, while the classic, cup-shaped blooms are the essence of spring. Plant in masses for a spectacular display. The dark purple color harmonizes well with other single tulip varieties, both in the garden and in the vase. Be sure to plant enough to cut by the handful! The blooms also look lovely paired with purple foliage plants like Penstemon and Coral Bells (Heuchera), or contrasted by white bleeding hearts. Select a planting location with full to partial sun and well-draining soil. 'Purple Prince' grows well in hardiness zones 3-8. Chilled bulbs can also be forced for springtime decor or to grow tulips in climates outside hardiness zones 3 to 8.
