Showy Milkweed (Asclepias) lives up to its name, producing an explosion of star-shaped flowers in rounded three-inch clusters from late spring into summer. Each bicolor bloom stands like a crown with pale, tapering horns surrounded by darker pink to purple sepals. An important nectar resource for adult monarchs, other butterflies, hummingbirds, native bees, and honey bees. (Asclepias speciosa)

Nearly DOA

"I bought 8 plants, including some Showy Milkweed and only 2 have survived despite extensive efforts. The Milkweed arrived small and flimsy and never recovered."

KT (1/5)

Only one survived. Replacements were much better

"They were very tiny. Not much more than a seedling and only one made it. The replacement sent is much better and is doing great. Customer service was quick. I am pleased."

Resie (3/5)

Garbage

"This was held up in shipping for days, and by the time it arrived, was shriveled and dead. The soil was dried out and spilled all over the box. I had emailed them the day before asking if if would survive that long. No one ever responded."

Wells (1/5)

It's growing great!

"I live in California, and I want to attract Monarch Butterflies. This plant is the milkweed they need. People confuse it with tropical milkweed, which attracts butterflies, but it contains a parasite that disfigures the butterflies' wings, adding to the decline of this beautiful insect."

Olive G. (5/5)

It has brought Monarchs!

"This is beautiful when in bloom but is brown and ugly after. However, the butterflies don't seem to mind! We have never seen monarch butterflies in our garden until now. So excited!"
