The violet daisy-shaped blooms of 'Purple Dome' Aster pair beautifully with its honey yellow centers and forest green foliage. This native wildflower is easy to grow and compact, making it a great choice for containers, borders and small-space gardens. 'Purple Dome' bursts into bloom in the late summer, providing much-needed color and vital nectar for pollinators right when much of the garden has finished for the season. (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae)
'Purple Dome' Aster is a world-famous New England Aster that every wildflower gardener wants (Novae-Angliae means New England in Latin)! This native is the perfect late-season color maker in meadows or perennial borders. It covers itself in flowers for weeks, when almost everything else in the meadow is finished blooming. These magnificent plants make up the last hurrah before the garden or meadowscape tucks itself to bed for the winter.
'Purple Dome' was featured as an honorable mention in a Mt Cuba Center Trial Garden Research Report. These reports evaluate native plants and related cultivars for horticultural and ecological value, highlighting the ecosystem services they provide.

Doesn't attract any pollinators
"If you are looking to support pollinators, don't buy this. I have native non-cultivar New England Asters and this cultivar, and the native non-cultivar New Englands Asters are covered in pollinators, there is not a single pollinator on these Purple Dome one's. This is the last time I bought a cultivar. The native non-cultivars are beautiful, why not sell those???"

A great buy
"I've added the three plants I ordered to my butterfly garden. They've survived the drought so far this summer and I hope that the butterflies will enjoy the late season pollen!"

Nice little green healthy plant, Great looking roots!
"Beautiful plant! I would buy this again from American Meadows. I kept it potted for weeks before planting and kept it outside. It came with healthy looking green growth, and it was nicely rooted in the pot. I planted it a few weeks ago, and it's still looking very nice. I'm a happy customer."
— Isaiah (5/5)
It took several weeks and it looked dead but I see green.
"As I stated it took several weeks to see any sign of life."
— Alice (3/5)
An incredible Fall Pollinator!
"In Zone 4, second year and this is has amazing Fall display. It is October and still completely full of blooms. It has been covered in Bumblebees and other Native bees, while the honeybees feed on the non-native ornamentals."
— Brandon (5/5)
Not my favorite. .
"The flowers were NOT as pretty as the picture and I would NOT buy these again. Also, the seeds in the packets NEVER produce one flower, I bought over 10 packets. Complete waste of money. Save your money!!"
— Goldie (2/5)
love the color
"Have new home site a so experimenting and after one year in the ground the plant is in bloom. Love the color (photo was accurate) but wish I had put it in a bit sunnier spot since it is not as lush and floriferous as I was expecting."
— First M. (5/5)
Healthy plants getting ready to bloom
"These plants have been building up strength since I planted them this spring. I'm looking forward to seeing them bloom for the first time later this summer or fall!"
— Helen (5/5)
Deer don't like them, but will still sample
"I planted these last year and ended up losing one of my three. The deer came along and pulled the plants right out of the ground to get a taste. I figured they'd learned their lesson and replanted. They did not. Two Groundhogs Days in a row later and I put forks in the ground to deter noses. The two that survived the meals did fantastic this spring and even if the deer tried a bite the plants handled it well."
— Jen (4/5)
Great plants.
"These small plants doubled in size within one month of planting. They look beautiful in my xeriscape garden and I'm looking forward to them blooming in the fall."
