Prairie Blazing Star is a summer standout in perennial borders, pollinator gardens, and meadow plantings. Flowers are pollinated primarily by long-tongued bees, butterflies, and skippers. The Xerces Society designates this plant as having special value to native bees, and other bee visitors include honeybees, bumblebees, carpenter bees, miner bees, halictine bees, and large leaf-cutting bees. Butterflies frequenting Prairie Blazing Star include Monarchs, Swallowtails, Painted Ladies, Sulfurs, and others. Native to prairies and bluffs throughout the central United States, this species tolerates a variety of soils, including clay, though it also thrives with moist, well-drained soils. While Prairie Blazing Star tolerates more moisture than other Liatris species, plants do not tolerate wet winter soils. Plant it among other native beauties like Coneflower, Anemone, Sneezeweed, and Ornamental Grass.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
