Description

4-6" tall x 12-24" wide. ‘Scarlet Flame’ is a selection of the North American native creeping phlox beloved for dramatic spring blooms. This variety blooms mid- to late-spring and is stunning layered beneath bulbs and other seasonal blooms. The thick carpet of deep green foliage makes an ideal edger or border planting, and works magic in the rock garden. Use it to line garden paths or spill from containers. Quick-growing and dependable, ‘Scarlet Flame’ tolerates a variety of growing conditions and soils. In addition to cold, plants tolerate heat and humidity. Plants perform best when planted so the crown rests just at or slightly above the soil surface. This pet-friendly selection will attract butterflies to the spring garden, and resists deer and rabbit browsing. Provide good drainage.

Creeping Phlox is a favorite perennial groundcover in all growing regions. Cold hardy and heat tolerant, it creates a colorful carpet of low-growing, cheerful blooms that appear each spring atop a deep green mat of evergreen foliage. A rapid spreader, Creeping Phlox is masterful at filling spaces in between trees, rolling down gentle slopes or steep banks, and covering areas that are hard to care for with its solid swath of color. Very dependable  and tolerant of many soil types. Deer resistant.
