'Scarlet Flame' Creeping Phlox ushers in spring vibrantly with its star-shaped, magenta-pink blooms. A drought-tolerant evergreen, this perennial groundcover creates a dense mat of 6 inch blooms atop needle-like foliage. Plant 'Scarlet Flame' in tricky areas like steep banks and rock walls to watch its flowers skillfully spread. Very cold hardy. (Phlox subulata)

Growing well but only a

"Growing well but only a few blooms."

Deborah W. (4/5)

Very Easy to plant

"Bought these with another creeping phlox of a different color to add some color contrast. These were planted along our driveway. We planted a total of 216 plants. Too early to tell if they will blossom as they were planted in September and probably won't see any results until Spring. So far they seem to be holding up well, even with our first frost. They were very easy to plant and instructions were easy to follow. Hopefully they'll survive an upstate New York winter. Only gave 3 stars because we haven't seen any results yet. If it works out I will change it to 5 stars."

A nice surprise

"I ordered 13 of these to border a bed I was building around the base of a tree. When the phlox arrived they were tiny and I was expecting a 50% survival rate. I planted then and have watered them diligently all season and to my surprise they are all healthy and have already doubled in size. 2 did not survive as a result of my dogs digging many of them up repeatedly. Next year I expect these to actually form the carpet of color I am hoping for."

Absolutely beautiful

"These are thriving on my sunny, dry, very sandy-soiled front slope where I have lots of trouble growing things. They bloomed right after I planted them, kept their flowers for a long time, and have stayed green all summer (I water twice a week). The cheerful flowers are among the earliest bloomers here in northwest Ohio, providing a pop of spring right when you need it most. This is the second batch I've ordered from AM. The ones I planted last year are also thriving."

Did well this hot and dry summer

"The 3 inch plants seemed small when planted but have grown a lot this summer, despite the unusual heat and lack of rain. The first time I have bought plants via mail and was impressed with the packaging and the results."

I love creeping phlox

"Planted this in front of some other plants, I love how creeping phlox spreads, they bloom so lovely in spring"

Limited Success

"The plants were extremely small and fragile upon receipt. Blooms pink, not red which is a disappointment. I have a red monochromatic garden, thus pink is not acceptable. Phlox can be a bit of a challenge to establish by my experience. At least 50% of the plants I used in raised beds, full sun, have not survived. The ones that did are extremely slow growing (to be expected) and have produced very few blooms. The purpose for this plant selection was to eventually grow the phlox to cascade over the sides of the beds for added interest and contrast to other plants contained therein. This will be a timely process. Will order replacement/supplemental phlox in the Spring of 2017 so as to support my original design."
