Choose the right spot.This is important. These plants need excellent well-drained soil, rich in humus. And maybe even more important, they need some protection from the wind and rain. Blowing wind and rain can ruin them, just when you're expecting the big bloom. Don't let that happen. Choose some spot with something behind them--a wall, a tall strong plant, something.
Enjoy! Watch after them as they grow, water and feed often, and once you begin to see buds, and then blooms, you'll know what all the buzz is about. These flowers are so exquisite, they put others to shame. The growth habit is a lot like hollyhocks, but comparing delphiniums to hollyhocks is like comparing a brand new Mercedes to a nice old Ford. If you're new to delphiniums, you're growing a spectacular "wall of flowers", unlike anything you've ever grown before.

"I added a few of these many years ago. I'd wanted the deeper blue (Guardian Blue Delphinium) but missed them that year and decided to try the Guardian Lavender Delphinium instead. So glad I did, these became a new favorite quickly. Added some more next year and they've come back every year since. They have these gorgeous almost shimmery soft light lavender-colored blooms. They look delicate and fragile but have held up to some heavy summer storms. They last in bloom for a while both as a cut flower, in the containers on my porch, and in the perennial beds where I've got them growing. Love these, and highly recommend them. Grown in both garden beds and containers too."
"These surprised me. Quickly sprouted and very delicate pale blue flowers. Once they were done flowering, they rapidly disintegrated. I don't think there's enough bulb to reuse."
