Silver Swirl Dusty Miller turns the volume way up on silvery foliage. Velvety, almost-white leaves are deeply lobed with dramatically wavy edges, swirling into a tidy mound that brings serious wow-factor to borders, edging, and mixed containers. The unexpected texture and pale, ghostly color make it a fantastic foil for darker greens, rich purples, hot pinks, or bright whites.
This selection (botanically Centaurea ragusina) is descended from a wild species native to the seaside limestone cliffs of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, where it adapted to handle salt spray, wind, heat, and lean rocky soils. That tough heritage shows: Silver Swirl thrives in well-drained soil with full sun, tolerates drought, salt, and low fertility once established, and offers improved cold hardiness compared to the species. Small yellow flowers may appear in spring, but the foliage is the all-season star.
At 8-12 inches tall and 12-14 inches wide, Silver Swirl is the perfect compact accent for rock gardens, the front of the border, container thrillers, or the edge of a moonlight garden where pale foliage practically glows after dark. Best of all, deer and rabbits leave it alone.
