"The one that survived is doing well, the others I fear have not."
"This is definitely a slow growing plant! I'm happy it survived the winter."
"My Amsonia hubrectii arrived on time and lovingly packed. They were mere sprigs --- and only one sprig per 3" pot --- so plan to buy a lot if you want anything approaching the photos shown. They've done well and have doubled in size in a month."
"All plants survived the first summer here in the KC. They grow slow, so we are are adding more to fill in the space. Probably will have to thin out in a couple years."
"The plant arrived in good condition and has doubled in size in about six weeks. I'm looking forward to the beautiful fall color."
"I bought 5 of these and 2 of the 5 have not grown one inch is why I only gave a 4 star. The plants are still young but the 3 look wonderful and the best part is the deer and rabbits have not touched it. I really look forward to see them get bigger."
"Arrived smashed, soil spilled all over box. Didn't think it would live but, it has. Not a fast grower, spreader."
Arkansas bluestar, native to the Ouachita mountains, was discovered in 1942 by naturalist Leslie Hubrict. Since then, it has become a garden favorite, prized for its cloudlike foliage and brilliant autumn hue. Its designation as the Perennial Plant of the Year for 2011 indicates that it's not only attractive, but also adaptable and easy to grow in a variety of conditions. The tall stems sport feathery foliage topped in late spring by pale blue, star-shaped flowers. In fall, the foliage turns a hazy, golden yellow, especially when grown in full sun.
Arkansas Bluestar was featured as a Top Performer in a Mt Cuba Center Trial Garden Research Report. These reports evaluate native plants and related cultivars for horticultural and ecological value, highlighting the ecosystem services they provide.
