How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Callas are native to South Africa, and today they're not only easy to grow, but available in a literal rainbow of colors. Their fluted blooms and refined foliage make them a favorite for floral arrangements, but they also lend a sense of elegance to the landscape. Callas do best when sited in dappled or bright, yet indirect sunlight. The common white one Zantedeschia aethiopica, like all callas, is hardy in the US only in Zones 8 through 10. This makes callas 'tender bulbs' in most of the country, and they'll have to be lifted out of the ground and stored indoors come fall. Zantedeschia aethiopica prefers moist soil and can even thrive when sited along stream banks and water features. Many people grow callas in patio pots, which can be brought in before frost arrives. Most of the very colorful callas are a separate species, C. rehmannii, and these have more narrow leaves than the classic white type. If you haven't grown callas, you may be surprised that these bulbs create a sizable plant. Sometimes the clumps grow 36' high. Most all callas have pointed or heart-shaped foliage that's dark green, spattered with white spots. The bulbs are irregular, sort of like ginger roots, and several can be planted in the same pot. They enjoy being root-bound. If you plant your bulbs in spring, you'll have flowers in about 70-112 days.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. "I planted these along with serval other varieties in July which is a little late and was hoping I would get some flowers before I needed to pull them in the Fall. (Only hardy in zones 8 and above and I am in zone 4) They did not disappoint! The Callas sprouted quickly. All 3 colors come up and I see new growth and more flowers everyday only 30days later. I might try to pot some next time so I can grow them inside."
"These calla lilies in their first season were absolutely beautiful. Lots and lots of colorful blooms. The pink ones bloomed several shades of pink. As a cut flower, they lasted a couple of weeks or more in vases in the house. Amazing!"
"These performed wonderfully. Made great cut flowers for arangements."
"I tried to plant in smaller area but it likes a lot of space."
