Excellent bulbs!
"The only con I have is that the name 'Black Beauty' and the photo description is not accurate to their color. The red is NOT deep and so they are the same color as my other red glads."

"Beautiful colors tall and very attractive flowers"
"Healthy corms. Most came up. However, the color was much lighter than expected. I will move them to the backyard. I would still like some dark maroon/red for the front, so I guess my search continues. I did contact the company to find out if I needed to amend my soil to get them to bloom true to color. They sent me a link to a website that didn't help at all. I guess I will experiment next year with some in acidic (native) soul and some alkaline."
"Mine came up beautifully! They look completely black when they are just coming out of their bud and then turn into a deep velvety burgundy. Photos don't do them justice. Their color is so deep and beautiful. I will be buying more! I also planted the Princess Margaret glads and they came up great too! I planted all my glads in bulb cages to protect them from the ghophers."
"I grew these in my raised garden beds and the cut them to bring inside. These had black buds and then beautiful dark red flowers. The flowers do get a more purple hue as they begin to wilt, so I would pluck the dying ones off a little sooner than other color gladiolus I've had."
"I love glads-so many long lasting and beautiful blooms. Only problem is the deer love to eat them so I have to plant them in a fenced in garden but they are worth it."
Try planting this Gladiolus on its own or pairing with a white variety for a truly stunning combination. Beautiful in the garden and cut for bouquets!
Growing Gladiolus: Everyone knows gladiolus, but not every gardener knows how easy they are to grow. The original "glad" was a wildflower from South Africa called "sword lily", which was imported into Europe in the 1840's. As with almost every other bulb, the Dutch went to work and created a grand rainbow from a quite lowly flower.
Put them close together so you'll end up with a mass of color, not just a stick here and there. One of the things that makes growing gladiolus so easy is that the plants take almost no space. You can easily pop in the bulbs between other more permanent plants. Just find the spaces in your garden, put in the bulbs in tight groups wherever you can, and you'll know that in a few weeks, those spots will be glowing towers of color.
And of course, everyone knows gladiolus are great in a vase. So be sure to plant plenty where you can cut them. They're inexpensive, and few other flowers give you so much color for the cost. When frost threatens, you can just forget them, and buy new ones in spring, or dig up the bulbs and store them until the following spring. Don't hesitate. Enjoy gladiolus this summer. You can't have too many.
