The Summer Drummer Allium is dramatic and showy. The large 8” flower ball is made up of tiny florets in purple and white. Besides its large blooms it’s highly fragrant and stands 4-5’ Tall on green stems that mature to maroon. Alliums are long lasting and bloom in late spring to early summer. Best if used for backs of borders or as a focal point. (Allium)

Looks pretty even after color fades

"This is a follow up review to show a photo that my husband took of how the bloom fades to a natural light beige after it is done being purple. This is taken middle of August and these super cool shapes don't show any sign of going anywhere! We didn't see the 8 inch blooms promised in the listing, more like 5 inches, but we LOVE how tall these are and how they seem impervious to wind or any other type of destruction. This variety is definitely a great value, we have just ordered more."

As tall as a person, very strong!

"Oh wow, these WAY exceeded my expectations! I guess I didn't read the listing very thoroughly when I was going crazy and trying every variety of allium available. . . because the summer drummers are even neater than I imagined they would be! I planted late last summer along with multiple other types of allium. I have a planting of hens and chicks succulents that are still filling in. I wanted alliums in the gaps to add interest and height. . . and the summer drummer stalks just kept getting higher. . . . and higher. . . . and higher! They ended up being about as tall as a human being. Plus the stalks are very sturdy; we have wind advisories multiple times a week and these are still standing strong! Just to prepare you so you can interplant accordingly, the leaves aren't all that pretty. They branch out on either side of the stalk like fish ribs, and the lower leaves start to brown and wither in prep for the blooms, as do so many other alliums. So maybe it's a good idea to either trim the expired leaves, or to interplant with some leafy plant that's at least a foot tall and will hide the bottom of the stalk. Ornamental oregano or so many others would be a good choice. These came after the spring alliums, after the drumsticks, before the red mohicans. Perfect addition for extending the allium season, and the color mix is unusual and beautiful!"
