One of America's most famous wildflowers, Dutchman's Breeches is a small, wild version of Bleeding Heart, with creamy white flowers so named for their resemble to a pair of upside-down, hung-to-dry pants. Blooming in early spring, the delicate fern-like foliage lasts on, changing from a gray-green to pale yellow. A simple yet striking addition to the shade or woodland garden. (Dicentra cucullaria)

Made an early minimal appearance and died off quickly.

"We had a cold winter with little snow fall and many bulbs and fall plantings did not make it."

Too tender

"I purchased 2 bags of Dutchman's Breeches for my shaded border. They arrived sprouted which left me feeling hopeful - but the sprouts are so tender and many snapped in the process of planting - I was very gentle with them…. But now completely unsure if they will take root and survive. I wish they came in 3in pots for a more stable planting. Generally happy with American meadows - but would have thought twice about these had there been photos of the sprouted plant as sold."

The Dutchman"s Breeches have not emerged yet .

"I purchased these plants for resale at my greenhouse business. I follow the planting instructions but nothing emerged."

hasn't come up, alas

"bare roots came in with a few wilted flwoers still attached. looked healthy. unfortunately none of the three have grown since being planted more or less a months ago"

They leafed out in spring but may take a year to bloom

"There were plenty of the little corms (bulbs) in the package and they did come up the next spring. These plants take a while to settle in so I hope they will start blooming next year."

New Record for Barefoot Blooms

"Planted in naturalized shade woodland setting. Planted bare root plants per instructions. All of them grew and leafed out within a day. One got miniature blooms five days after planting the bare root (see photo). Wow!"

Buying more next year

"Arrived in good condition and well packaged in recyclable materials. These little guys took well to transplanting, and were starting to grow and liked the shady place under the privet where I planted them. But then a bad spring storm took them all out (the wind gets insane in our yard. ) I know they are a delicate plant, and are hard to establish, so will be trying again next year. I trust this seller, and will be buying them here again, and hope I get it right next year! It's worth it to me to go through the trial and error to get more native plants established in my tiny urban space."

Disappointing it did not grow.

"I planted in accordance with instructions seasonal timing with not success. I have had only planting out of all that I ordered that did not grow."
