Every shade garden needs a little whimsy, and Fingerpaint Foam Flower delivers. Its deeply scalloped leaves are bright green with a rich burgundy center, markings that look like brushstrokes along the veins. The result is a tight, rounded mound of showy foliage that brightens shady corners.
In spring, pink buds open into airy spikes of creamy white, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the foliage like sea foam and persist into early summer, supporting bees and attracting butterflies. Planted in groups, Fingerpaint forms a beautiful groundcover for shade beneath trees and alongside hostas and ferns, and it also sparkles in a mixed container. The foliage takes on bronze-red tints in fall, and deer tend to leave it alone.
Fun fact: Fingerpaint is a hybrid of two North American native foamflowers, Tiarella cordifolia and Tiarella wherryi, bred for its outstanding foliage and form.
