Superstar Green and Gold lives up to its name with a bright, sunny show that just keeps coming. This cheerful eastern U.S. native groundcover blankets itself in golden yellow, five-petaled, star-shaped flowers from mid spring well into early summer, with sporadic reblooming through the season. The blooms float just above a tidy carpet of glossy, semi-evergreen green foliage, lighting up shaded corners and woodland edges where many flowering plants struggle.
Reaching just 5-8 inches tall and spreading 12-24 inches wide, Chrysogonum virginianum 'Superstar' is the kind of low, spreading groundcover that knits itself into the front of borders, drifts beneath trees, or fills shady pollinator beds with color. The long bloom time and accessible flowers make it a favorite of bees and butterflies, and the dense semi-evergreen mat suppresses weeds while giving your garden a tidy, finished look year-round.
This is a low-maintenance, deer-resistant native that thrives in moist, well-drained loamy soils in part shade to shade. Pair it with native ferns, foamflower, wild ginger, or trillium for a layered woodland tapestry that honors the natural beauty of eastern North America's deciduous forests.
