Southern Charm Mullein lives up to its name. Tall, graceful spires rise above a low rosette of soft gray-green foliage from late spring through late summer, each one packed with cup-shaped blooms in heritage shades of soft peach, dusty pink, and creamy buff. The effect is romantic, vintage, and a little bit cottage-garden magical, the kind of color combination that makes everyone slow down and ask what it is.
A short-lived perennial that self-sows just enough to keep itself going, this verbascum thrives in lean, well-drained soils with full sun. It tolerates drought, heat, and low fertility with grace, naturalizes politely in cottage gardens and meadow plantings, and provides excellent vertical interest among lower mounding perennials. The blooms attract bees and butterflies for weeks at a time, and the long stems make a stunning addition to fresh-cut summer bouquets.
Reaching 24-36 inches tall with an 18-24 inch spread, Southern Charm pairs beautifully with catmint, salvia, lavender, or ornamental grasses for a soft, sun-loving combination. Deer and rabbits pass it by, leaving more blooms for you (and the bees) to enjoy.
