How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
24-36" tall x 24-36" wide. Early summer, free flowering extravagance! Peony ‘Benjamin Franklin’ blooms in June with abundant crimson-red blossoms. The double flowers unfold, inviting admiration with their gentle sweet scent. Peonies are great as cut flowers. Snip when the buds are well formed and watch them unfold. Very cold hardy and deer resistant, plant in well-drained, compost enriched soil in a sunny location. Don’t crowd peonies, good air circulation keeps them healthy and happy. Peonies live for 50 years or more, rewarding you with decades of beautiful flowers. The dark green glossy foliage adds a stately presence throughout the season. Trim off spent blooms, and clean up wilted foliage as the season ends. They will send up new shoots in the spring.

"I bought 2 Ben Franklin peony roots because the color in the photo looked very interesting. When they arrived they were smaller than expected but both had 2 eyes. Unfortunately they both died."
"We planted the bare roots in the fall of 2021, it bloomed the summer of 2023. Beautiful so far, but not red like pictures. Very bright pink."
"Mine also looked bright pink instead of red like the picture. It's still very pretty."
"I bought 2 of these and 1 Festiva Maxima Peony. When I planted I noticed 1 of the Benjamin Franklin's looked a little different from the rest. Didn't have any eyes like the others. That one never came up. I did reach out to customer service and they were able to issue a refund, since they didn't have any left at the time to send me a replacement. The one that came up is healthy and lush. I can't wait to start seeing blooms in a couple years!"
"I know this plant will take a few years to bloom. What I wonder about now are the yellow spots on the leaves. The other peony I received at the same time has nice dark green leaves. They are planted 3 to 4 feet apart from each other. Hopefully this is not a diseased plant."
"i have a large grouping of these in my backyard. they are lovely! such a beautiful red. i have had them for about 4 seasons now. the first two seasons aren't impressive, but they will be your favorites after the initial growth period."
"Still very small. Doubt that it will bloom this season."
