"Still waiting to break ground, after planting 3 weeks ago. Looking forward to seeing this plant in my garden. Looking forward. #sweepstakes"
"Would not buy again. Bare roots were tiny but did have small, green growth on them. They were planted within 3 days of arrival. 2 out of the 3 plants have already died. What a waste of money. Would not recommend."
"This plant may not fit the definition of a classic beauty but the pollinators would definitely disagree. When the flowers begin to open on this Holly every manner of pollinator you can think of is there for a meal and the blooms last from mid summer to late summer. My plants were 3-4 ft tall andquite sprawling. I was really impressed with how popular this plant was with our pollinating population."
"I followed directions and had no issues with this plant coming up this summer. I bought it to use for flower arrangements, but I also like the unique look of this plant."
"I should probably not say this but I will any way. There are some plants that are great planting as bare root and then there are some that one just needs to go to a local nursery and buy an established plant. I have found this is one that you should go to a local nursery to get because it is already established and will bloom the first season. I have two of them and they are an interesting plant. The only draw back is that they do not move well if one wants to move it later"
"I was really looking forward to seeing this plant grow and flower. I like to try different looking flowers in my gardens and had never see this plant before. Sadly they did not come up at all. I will say, the customer service was stellar and the situation resolved expediticiously!!! (reason for 3 stars)"
"This plant did very well in full sun. I would like to order more."
"Grew a little during the summer, never bloomed. Was flimsy. Hoping it comes back in the spring to see it bloom."
"I ordered these with the hope that they would do well here. The bare roots came in great shape, and tried their best to thrive. In the end our heat and humidity, baked and steamed them to death."
Here's a fascinating plant, new to us this year. But hardly new. Most Sea Hollies grow along the Mediterranean coast as striking blue wildflowers, and they have been admired for centures. Even Plutarch wrote about this plant in ancient Rome! One of the species also grows in the Alps, and that one is Erynigium alpinum, or Alpine Sea Holly. Our selection is from that species, and said to be one of the bluest of them all.
The great British gardener of the Edwardian period, William Robinson, the first plant expert who was seriously interested in wildflowers, said Sea Holly was his all-time favorite. Stunned by the blue coloring, rare in flowers, he wrote that Sea Holly was not surpassed in beauty by any plant! Quite an endorsement. For good growth, Sea Holly requires full sun and a gritty, fast-draining soil, so site yours carefully. The flowers arise in mid-summer from plants about 30 tall, and by the way, both the leaves and roots are edible.
