How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
'Cafe Au Lait' Dinner Plate Dahlia is world-famous for its huge, blush-colored blooms. Dahlias are available in a broad range of flower forms, with colors ranging from soft pastels to vivid hues to deep rich shades. Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"I've grown dahlias for years, but this was my first time using Cafe Au Lait tubers from American Meadows. My other varieties (also from AM) did fine; but, only one CAL tuber grew foliage… and it never flowered. Total waste of time, money and garden space."
"Planted within my flower garden and due to its height and size has taken over as the focal point!"
"Terribly disappointed. Only one bulb ever sprouted new growth. Others never came up, even though I followed all planting instructions."
"I have been wanting these for a long time."
"Two of the three tubers grew. Only one is finally setting buds now, 9/22. Certainly hope the unseasonably warm weather continues so it will bloom. My other dahlias have been widely variable as to growth and bloom times this year. However, the cafe au lait are the slowest of all my dahlias. I will lift tubers and hope for better luck next year."
"it was a very late booming dahlia, but very healthy with many flowers !"
"Beautiful flower. Plant didn't grow as tall as I expected. So far, no powdery mildew."
"The tubers arrived broken and dried out. One of the three never sprouted and a second is dying back after struggling for weeks. I received two tubers of the same variety from a different vendor a couple of weeks after I received the American Meadows order. The difference in the condition of the tubers from each order was stark. The tubers from the other vendor have produced plants that are three times as big as the one surviving American Meadows plant. I contacted customer service shortly after my order arrived to express my disappointment in the condition of the tubers I received. They offered to send a replacement, but I declined. This is not the first time I have received poor quality plants from American Meadows, and its unacceptable for them to continue to send dead and dying plants."
"These grew well and made nice cutting flowers for arrangements i 2022. They were slightly offwhite so they weren't very striking but that made them good to go with most other colors. They were easy to dig. I don't know yet how they will be for the second year."
"I was so excited to get my hands on this variety for such a low price, sadly the tubers were infected with leafy gall, the plants were spindly and I had to get rid of all the dahlias surrounding these plants in case those were effected too. What I thought was a deal ended up costing me in the end. The flowers themselves were beautiful, not as large as I expected, but very pretty. Very dissappointed they brought disease to my dahlia patch."
