USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

(4-10" tall) The Naturalizing Fairy Garden Bulb Collection begins the season with a delightful pairing of 'Tete-a-Tete' Miniature Daffodil and Siberian Squill. Emerging early spring, this yellow-and-blue duo grows just 4 to 6 inches tall – a perfect groundcover for edging pathways and dressing the front of borders. Next to arrive are the uniquely patterned blooms of Chequered Lily Fritillaria, sending up drifts of purple, white, and pink blooms mid-spring. At 10 inches, fritillaria is the tallest bulb of the mix, but still perfectly pint-sized. The upward-facing blooms of 'Golden Bells' Daffodil open in late spring, carrying their sunny yellow hues into early summer. This charming collection is perfect for planting in rock gardens or adding a touch of whimsy to your secret garden. Bulbs in this collection naturalize well in hardiness zones 3 through 8. Plant in full to partial sun in a well-draining soil. Encourage establishment by allowing the foliage to die back naturally, rather than cutting it down early, as plants store energy and enter summer dormancy.

Our Naturalizing Fairy Garden Bulb Collection is roughly 6' x 3' if planted together and contains 109 plants:

1. Tete-a-Tete Miniature Daffodil - 25 Bulbs

2. Siberian Squill - 30 Bulbs

3. Chequered Lily Fritillaria Mix - 30 Bulbs

4. Golden Bells Miniature Daffodil - 24 Bulbs

*Not all plants will be in bloom at the same time, as depicted on the illustration. Plants are subject to change due to availability. If we make substitutions, we feature plants with similar attributes suitable to the garden/collection design.
