Our Native Southeast Mixture contains 17 wildflowers, including Scarlet Sage, Blazing Star, Spiderwort and more, that are native to the Southeast region of the country. This easy-to-grow mixture provides a burst of blooms in the first season and for years after. All of the seed we handle at American Meadows is non-GMO, neonicotinoid-free and guaranteed to grow.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
The rich biodiversity of the southeast is reflected in this native mix which assures success with the area's high summer temperatures and long growing season. Annuals include the favorite, Plains Coreopsis, often called Calliopsis in the South, plus annual red phlox, Indian blanket and black-eyed Susan. Perennials and biennials include much-loved Butterfly Weed, Purple Coneflower, Red Standing Cypress, Blazing Star, Wild Lupine, and even Scarlet Sage and Spiderwort.
This mixture contains 17 native wildflowers, 4 annuals for first-year color, plus 13 perennials or biennials for second and successive years' bloom.
