Comments about American Meadows Southeast Pollinator Wildflower Seed Mix:

I spread the seed after last frost in the spring of 2017 in NC. It took some time for things to get going, but I sowed the seed in soil that was mostly clay and had very little organic matter. I did not add any fertilizer or soil conditioner. I was amazed at the result......very good growth throughout the 10,000 sq/ft area I seeded. I did sow at the high rate. I will say that the Cosmos grow very tall and snuffs the other flowers out in many areas.....I would recommend that American Meadows put less cosmos seeds in this mix. Can't wait to see the perennials next year. I'll trim back the Cosmos if they come back strong.

I'm a honeybee keeper and I saw mostly butterflies and native bees on these flowers....not many honeybees. They do bring a lot of pollinator activity....it's great. I'm sure I'll see even more activity when the perennials come in next year. The honeybees seem to love the Chinese Forget-Me-Not, but this grows low and was overshadowed by the larger plants, namely Cosmos.

        Q & A

        Plant With These:

        USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

        • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
        • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
